One of the most fundamental components of a proper IDX Broker installation is implementing a CNAME record change. The CNAME record change creates a subdomain that can be used for displaying IDX Broker pages.
A subdomain is everything that appears to the right of the two forward slashes and left of the domain. It is separated from the domain by a dot.
The most prevalent subdomain is “www”. When possible, we use “www” for IDX Broker pages. When our clients have an existing website that has an extensive amount of indexed content that includes “www” in the url string we typically recommend they choose something else.
There are two principles you should take into consideration when choosing a subdomain for IDX Broker.
- Keep it short.
- Make sure it compliments your domain.
Popular subdomains for IDX Broker include; “find”, “get”, “search” and “see”. These are short subdomains and will compliment most real estate related domains.
